Palm Pre finds a totally unofficial home in China
Before phones show up at retail, they start showing up in totally random places in China — it’s basically a law of physics. And once that happens, they almost inevitably end up posted in a forum somewhere, and… well, you can gather where that leads. Chinese firm Ludle — which, according to its own description is in the business of “exploiting, producing and selling” — somehow came across a Pre (or possibly just an empty shell thereof), and a staff member took the time to do a quick set of comparo shots against a Centro and iPhone 3G. He notes that the Pre gets clogged with fingerprints as easily as the iPhone but handles… Continue reading
HTC Touch Diamond2 gets unboxed, shown off on video
We haven’t heard much about the appearance of the HTC Touch Diamond2 on US shores apart from a few AT&T-related whispers, but the squared-off handset is starting to pop up overseas, and the requisite unboxings and video tours have started flooding in. Sadly, these early units are still running Windows Mobile 6.1, so beauty’s only skin deep — or at least as deep as TouchFlo2 3D. Hardware video after the break, but there’s plenty more at the read links. Read – Windows Phone Mix Read – Tracy and Matt

Dell to launch smartphones in China by end of year
After having its prototypes rejected a few times over by carriers here in America, it seems that Michael Dell is taking his smartphone initiative overseas. ‘Course, he’ll need something mighty special to outshine Lenovo’s OPhone over in China, but we digress. Hot on the heels of rumors galore, Reuters is reporting that Dell is indeed aiming to launch multiple smartphones in the Chinese market before the dawn of 2010. A pair of analysts have asserted that the firm is working with Chi Mei Communications — an unlisted unit of Taiwan’s Hon Hai — on the hardware front, while China-based Red Office is engineering the operating system. Not surprisingly, spokespeople from… Continue reading
Palm Pre spotted just minding its own business in San Fran?
We can’t vouch for the authenticity of these shots, but the fact that there’s fully five of them posted certainly lends some element of legitimacy. What’s more, the first half ‘09 window is still very much confirmed by Palm, so let’s be honest: there pretty much have to be Pres floating around in some circles at this point. We didn’t necessarily anticipate “some circles” to mean “two peeps chilling at San Francisco’s Bring Your Own Wheel race,” but hey, whatever works. Catch another glorious shot in the wild after the break.[Via Boy Genius Report]

Former Motorola CFO alleges that company lied about financial data, Santa Claus
There have been no shortage of legal wranglings in the electronics space lately, usually between two well-entrenched corporations, but this one’s a little more interesting: a former officer taking the offensive against his former office. Paul Liska, previous head of all things financial at Motorola, is alleging that the company has been misleading investors for quite some time regarding the performance of its Mobile Devices unit, and that when he raised his concerns to the board he was given an escorted trip out the building for his troubles. Moto, on the other hand, is saying that the company’s current financial mess is all… Continue reading

T-Mobile UK event same day as USA’s, will be BlackBerry-focused
T-Mobile UK has decided to throw a little shindig for members of the press the very same day as its Yankee cousin — this coming 21st — but there’s a very important distinction with the UK event: it drops a hint about what they’ll be announcing. It turns out that they’ll be launching an “exciting new BlackBerry collaboration,” which we can only take to mean a new handset; now, the only question is whether these events are synchronized. If they are, that means we’ll be getting new RIM goodies on T-Mobile USA, but if it isn’t, this means precisely zilch for American subscribers. Historically, the US branch has been pretty out of sync with it European counterparts… Continue reading
Verizon’s Casio Exilim C721 confirmed in the middle of a steamy shower scene
Wanted our attention, Casio? Well, good, because you’ve definitely got it. This isn’t necessarily full disclosure of the phone’s existence, but for all practical purposes, this… uh, “promotional video” finally fesses up that the Exilim C721 is coming to Verizon (you can catch a glimpse of the carrier’s logo if you look closely — no, not that closely, you sicko). As you might have gathered, our ladyfriend here is using the phone’s 5 megapixel cam to snap some naughty shots for her sweetheart, all from the comfort of a warm shower — thanks in no small part to the phone’s water-resistant characteristics. Still no word on pricing, availability, or a full rundown of specs… Continue reading
HTC Touch Diamond lands tomorrow on Verizon: $299.99 on contract
It seems the rumblings and rumors were true — every last one of them. HTC’s now-aged Touch Diamond is indeed hitting Verizon Wireless this month, bringing with it the same 2.76-inch touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, TouchFLO interface and Windows Mobile 6.1 OS that we’ve seen ad nauseum on carriers around the world (though it does boast a microSD card slot). We’re pretty baffled by the immensely large $299.99 on-contract sticker (after $70 mail-in rebate), and honestly, we just don’t see VZW moving too many of these before a price drop. In fact, are you even giving this a second thought?

New Sidekick hits FCC with T-Mobile 3G
Occasionally, Sharp will pass a Japanese domestic market handset through the FCC for global roaming certification, but not this time. No, instead, we’re seeing the PV300 — and as any rabid Sidekick fan knows, Sharp’s Sidekicks are referred to as “PV” followed by a three-digit number internally, so yeah, we’re thinking this is probably the real deal. Of course, we’ve had no shortage of legit-sounding rumors in the past few months that there’s a new high-end Sidekick on the way to T-Mobile shelves, and indeed, it should come as no surprise that this one is certified for AWS 3G — the very kind T-Mobile uses — along with the usual assortment of GSM / EDGE bands… Continue reading

Michael Bay strikes again, pulls out Samsung cellphone at LG promo event

We’re not sure what LG expected when it invited Micheal Bay to speak about the company’s promotional support of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen at CTIA, but let’s be honest — they probably should have known dude was going to blow something up. Unfortunately for the gathered LG employees, this time Mike-Mike delivered a figurative explosion, telling the crowd “I don’t know anything about mobile phones. In fact, look at my phone — it’s a thirty-nine dollar Samsung.” Ouch — that’s roughly the equivalent of throwing a Ford in with the rest of the Autobots. Making matters worse, LG president of mobile products Juno Cho tried to salvage the moment by offering Bay his personal phone, but was… Continue reading

Verizon enV3 spotted by Mssr. Blurrycam
Doesn’t look like LG and Verizon are taking any radical steps with the next generation of the popular enV line — these snaps of the enV3 just leaked out, and at first glance it looks basically the same as the enV2. There are some differences, though: the numeric keypad is a bit more stylish, the QWERTY layout’s been tweaked, and the camera’s been bumped up to 3 megapixels. That’s all we can spot here — we’ll see if there are any other deep surprises if and when this puppy’s announced. One more pic after the break. [Via PhoneArena]
